  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup yellow mustard
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika (or regular paprika)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
For the Sausages
  • 2 packages cocktail sausages (lil smokies), about 2 pounds total
For Cooking
  • nonstick cooking spray (for the pan)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Set a disposable aluminum pan on a rimmed baking sheet for extra stability, and lightly coat the inside of the pan with nonstick cooking spray.
Making the Sauce
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the honey, yellow mustard, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and cayenne (if using).
Combining Ingredients
  1. Add the cocktail sausages to the prepared aluminum pan and spread them into an even layer.
  2. Pour the honey mustard mixture over the sausages and toss gently until evenly coated.
Baking
  1. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, stirring halfway through.
  2. Turn the oven to broil on high for 2-4 minutes until browned.
  3. Remove and let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

These little smokies can be served warm or at room temperature. They are great on their own or paired with toothpicks for easy eating. You can also serve them with extra honey mustard or dipping sauces on the side for added flavor. Make sure to whisk the sauce ingredients thoroughly for an even coating. Don't skip the broiling step; it gives the sausages a nice, caramelized finish. Feel free to adjust the spice level by adding more cayenne pepper or using a different mustard.
