Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 9-inch unbaked pie crust Store-bought or homemade.
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 cups room-temperature water Ensure the water is at room temperature for easier sugar dissolution.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and place a rack in the middle.
  2. Set a glass 9-inch pie plate with the unbaked pie crust on a baking sheet to catch any drips.
  3. If the pie shell is very soft, chill it in the fridge for a bit.
  4. In a medium bowl or measuring cup, whisk together the sugar and water until mostly dissolved.
  5. Pour the sugar-water mixture gently into the pie crust.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 minutes at 400°F.
  2. Reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for another 30-40 minutes. The edges should be golden, and the filling should be mostly set with a slight wobble.
  3. After baking, let the pie cool for at least 2 hours at room temperature before slicing.
Serving
  1. Serve your Southern 3-Ingredient Water Pie chilled or at room temperature.
  2. You can enjoy it plain or with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Make sure your pie crust is firm before adding the filling to prevent leaking. Use room-temperature water to help the sugar dissolve. Keep an eye on the pie while it bakes to ensure it doesn’t overcook. Store leftovers in the refrigerator, covered, for 3-4 days.
