Preparation
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, Worcestershire sauce, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Shape the mixture into patties.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and brown the patties on both sides. Transfer them to the slow cooker.
- In the same skillet, add sliced onions and sauté until softened.
- Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder to the onions and bring to a simmer.
- Pour the onion gravy over the patties in the slow cooker.
Cooking
- Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or until the beef is cooked through and tender.
- In a small bowl, mix cornstarch and cold water until smooth. Stir into the gravy and cook for an additional 30 minutes until thickened.
- Season with salt and black pepper to taste before serving.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in a pot or microwave until heated through. You can add chopped mushrooms or bell peppers to the onion gravy for extra flavor, and a dash of hot sauce for some spice.
