  • 2 pounds ground beef Use lean ground beef for less grease.
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk Can use whole or reduced-fat milk.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Adjust to taste.
  • 4 cups thinly sliced potatoes Ensure they are sliced thin for faster cooking.
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Can substitute with other cheese varieties.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and cook the chopped onion and minced garlic until fragrant.
  2. Add ground beef to the skillet and cook until browned. Drain excess fat.
Cooking
  1. In a slow cooker, combine the cooked beef mixture, cream of mushroom soup, milk, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.
  2. Arrange a layer of sliced potatoes over the beef mixture.
  3. Continue layering until all the potatoes and beef mixture are used.
  4. Cook on low heat for 6-7 hours or until the potatoes are tender.
  5. In the last 30 minutes of cooking, sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top. Cover and cook until the cheese is melted.

Notes

Serve with a fresh salad or crusty bread. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days or freeze for up to three months.
