Preparation
- Place the beef shoulder roast in the slow cooker and scatter the sliced onion around and over the meat.
- In a medium bowl or large measuring cup, whisk the brown gravy mix into the water until smooth, then stir in the Worcestershire sauce.
- Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the roast, cover, and cook on low for 8 to 9 hours or on high for 4 to 5 hours, until the beef is fork-tender.
Serving
- Once cooked, transfer the roast to a cutting board or large platter and slice or shred it into large pieces.
- Skim excess fat from the gravy in the slow cooker if needed.
- Return the beef to the gravy or spoon the gravy over the sliced meat before serving hot with mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.
Notes
For added flavor, consider including some garlic or herbs in the slow cooker. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the beef reaches an internal temperature of 145°F. Let the beef cool slightly before slicing or shredding for easier serving.
