Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients
  • 1 bag 28–32 ounce bag frozen crinkle-cut french fries Choose a good quality frozen fry for better texture.
  • 1 can 10.5 ounce canned condensed cream of onion soup
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided 3/4 cup for cooking, 1/4 cup for topping.
  • 1 packet 1 ounce dry onion soup mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder or smoked paprika (optional) For additional flavor.
  • to taste red pepper flakes or jalapeño slices (optional)
Optional Toppings
  • to taste crispy cooked bacon bits
  • to taste sliced green onions
  • to taste diced tomatoes

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Lightly spray the inside of a 4- to 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
  2. Dump the frozen crinkle-cut fries into the bottom of the slow cooker and spread them into an even layer.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the condensed cream of onion soup and the dry onion soup mix until well combined.
  4. Pour the onion soup mixture evenly over the frozen fries.
  5. Sprinkle 3/4 cup of the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 to 3 hours, or on LOW for 4 to 5 hours.
  2. Once cooked, sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup cheddar cheese over the top and let sit for 5 to 10 minutes.
Serving
  1. Serve while hot, optionally topping with bacon bits, green onions, or tomatoes.

Notes

Refrigerate leftovers within 2 hours for safety. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave or in the oven until heated through.
