Ingredients
  

Bread Base
  • 6 cups crumbled baked cornbread Use homemade or store-bought cornbread for best flavor.
  • 3 cups cubed day-old white bread
Vegetables & Fat
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
  • 3 stalks celery, finely diced
Binding Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3 to 3.5 cups chicken broth Add gradually until the mixture is moist but not soupy.
Seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon salt Or to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the diced onion and celery and cook for about 6 to 8 minutes until soft.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the crumbled cornbread, cubed white bread, cooked onion, celery, and melted butter.
  4. Stir in the poultry seasoning, sage, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix in the beaten eggs and gradually pour in chicken broth until the mixture is moist but not soupy.
  6. Spread the mixture evenly in the greased baking dish.
Baking
  1. Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes until the center is set and the top is golden brown.
  2. Let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Leftover dressing can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 3 months. For added flavor, try using homemade cornbread and feel free to incorporate ingredients like sausage, mushrooms, or nuts.
