Ingredients

  • For the Salisbury Steak
  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • For the Mushroom Onion Gravy
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion sliced
  • 8 ounces mushrooms sliced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Beef Patties
  2. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix gently and form into oval patties.
  3. Step 2: Brown the Patties
  4. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes per side until nicely browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Step 3: Cook the Mushrooms and Onions
  6. In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add sliced onions and mushrooms. Cook for 6–8 minutes until softened and golden brown.
  7. Step 4: Make the Gravy
  8. Sprinkle flour over the mushrooms and onions. Stir for 1 minute. Slowly whisk in the beef broth until smooth. Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Simmer until thickened.
  9. Step 5: Finish the Salisbury Steak
  10. Return the patties to the skillet. Spoon gravy over the top, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes until fully cooked and tender.
