Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 pounds beef stew meat, cut into cubes
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup water

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish, then spread the beef cubes in an even layer.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown gravy mix, dry onion soup mix, cream of mushroom soup, and water until smooth.
  4. Pour the mixture evenly over the raw beef cubes, ensuring all the meat is coated.
Cooking
  1. Cover the dish tightly with foil and bake for 2 1/2 to 3 hours, or until the beef is very tender, stirring once halfway through if desired.
  2. Let the dish rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
  3. Spoon the beef and gravy over mashed potatoes, noodles, or rice.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding chopped carrots or potatoes to the baking dish with the beef. If you like a thicker gravy, remove the foil in the last 30 minutes of cooking to allow it to reduce. You can customize this recipe by adding different seasonings or spices. For a kick of heat, add a sprinkle of black pepper or red pepper flakes. Alternatively, swap beef for chicken for a lighter version of the dish. This dish warms up nicely, making it perfect for leftovers.
