Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Must be at room temperature
  • 1.5 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 3 large Large Eggs
  • 2 teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 1 cup Whole Milk Can be substituted with other milk types
Optional
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar For dusting
  • 1 cup Fresh Berries For serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or an 8-inch square baking dish. Optionally line the bottom with parchment paper.
Mix Dry Ingredients
  1. Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium bowl and set aside.
Creaming
  1. Beat the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl for about 3 to 5 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  2. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  3. Incorporate the vanilla extract completely.
Combining Ingredients
  1. Gradually add the flour mixture and milk, starting with one-third of the flour and half of the milk, repeating until fully combined.
  2. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
Baking
  1. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes until lightly golden and the center springs back when touched.
  2. Allow to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving
  1. Dust with powdered sugar and serve plain or with fresh berries and whipped cream.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 to 4 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. Slices can be frozen for 3 months.
