  • 1 pound ground beef Use medium-fat ground beef for the best flavor and juiciness.
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced Slicing the onions thin helps them caramelize better.
  • 4 pieces burger buns Try different types of buns like pretzel or brioche for variety.
  • to taste salt and pepper Season patties to your preference.
  • for frying as needed vegetable oil Use enough oil to cover the bottom of the skillet.
Optional Toppings
  • cheese Optional, add pepper jack for a spicy kick.

Method
 

Cooking Onions
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and cook until caramelized and golden brown.
Cooking Patties
  1. While the onions are cooking, form the ground beef into patties and season with salt and pepper.
  2. Once the onions are done, remove them and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, cook the burger patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, adding a slice of cheese on top during the last minute of cooking if desired.
Assembling Burgers
  1. Toast the burger buns in the skillet.
  2. To assemble, place the cooked burger patty on the bun, top with fried onions and any additional toppings you prefer.
  3. Serve immediately.

Notes

If you have leftovers, store ingredients separately in airtight containers. Cooked patties can be kept in the fridge for up to 3 days or frozen for up to three months.
