Ingredients

Pudding Base
  • 1 box 5.1-ounce box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 3 cups cold whole milk For a richer flavor, use whole milk.
  • 1 can 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Plus an extra 1/2 teaspoon for whipped cream.
  • 1 container 8-ounce container whipped topping, thawed Store-bought can be used if preferred.
Layer Ingredients
  • 1 box 11-ounce box vanilla wafer cookies
  • 5 - 6 pieces ripe but firm bananas, sliced Ensure bananas are ripe but firm to avoid mushiness.
Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract For flavor.

Method

Preparation of Pudding
  1. In a large bowl, whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix with the cold milk for about 2 minutes, until thickened.
  2. Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract, then whisk until smooth and well combined.
  3. Gently fold in the whipped topping until the pudding mixture is light and creamy.
Making the Whipped Cream
  1. Beat the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
Layering and Assembling
  1. Arrange a layer of vanilla wafers in the bottom of a large trifle dish or 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Add a layer of sliced bananas, followed by about half of the pudding mixture.
  3. Repeat the layers with more cookies, bananas, and the remaining pudding.
  4. Spread the fresh whipped cream over the top.
  5. Garnish with additional vanilla wafers and banana slices if desired.
Chilling
  1. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, so the cookies soften and the flavors meld together.

Notes

For a chocolate version, layer in chocolate pudding. Add other fruits like strawberries or blueberries for variation. Store leftovers in an airtight container; best eaten fresh.
