Mexican-Inspired Beef Melt Sandwich

Ingredients
  

  • 0.5 lb ground beef (80/20 ratio)
  • 0.5 tsp ground cumin
  • 0.5 tsp chili powder
  • 0.25 tsp garlic powder
  • 0.5 tsp sal t
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 4 slices Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.25 cup pickled jalapeƱo slices
  • 0.25 cup red onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp chipotle mayonnaise
  • 0.5 medium avocado , sliced

Method
 

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the ground beef, breaking it into small crumbles as it browns.
  2. Incorporate cumin, chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper into the beef; cook until fully browned and drain excess fat.
  3. Spread softened butter onto one side of each bread slice.
  4. Apply chipotle mayonnaise to the non-buttered side of two bread slices.
  5. Layer one slice of Monterey Jack cheese, half of the beef mixture, pickled jalapeƱos, red onions, and avocado slices onto the mayonnaise-covered side.
  6. Place a second slice of cheese over the fillings and top with the remaining bread slice, buttered side facing outward.
  7. Preheat a clean skillet or griddle over medium heat.
  8. Place sandwiches in the skillet and toast for 3 to 4 minutes per side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is completely melted.
  9. Remove from heat, slice diagonally, and serve immediately.
