Preparation
- In a mixing bowl, combine lukewarm water, milk, 1 tablespoon of flour, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and dry yeast. Mix well and let it sit in a warm area for 10 minutes until it gets bubbly and frothy.
- In a separate bowl, mix the remaining flour and a pinch of salt. Gradually add the butter, using your hands to crumble the mixture until it resembles sand.
- Add the sugar, egg, and the yeast mixture to the flour mix. Knead the ingredients together for about 5 minutes until you have a smooth dough.
- Lightly dust a clean work surface with flour, and place the dough on it. Knead for an additional 5 to 8 minutes until the dough springs back when poked.
- Lightly oil a clean bowl and place the dough inside, oiling the dough’s surface as well. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and let it rise at room temperature for about an hour or until it doubles in size.
- After proofing, divide the dough into four equal parts and shape them into balls. Roll out each ball into a sheet that is about 1/2 inch thick and cut out the donuts.
- Cover the donuts with a cloth and let them rise again for another 30 to 40 minutes.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a pan to around 375 degrees F. Fry the donuts for about 70 to 90 seconds on each side until golden brown. Drain them on a cooling rack.
- To prepare the glaze, mix lukewarm milk, confectionary sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla in a bowl. Glaze the donuts by either piping or dipping them in the icing.
- Serve and enjoy the fluffiest donuts!
Notes
Serve fresh and warm with optional toppings like sprinkles or chocolate drizzle. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days, or freeze for up to 1 month.
