Preparation
- Line up 6 pieces of heavy-duty aluminum foil, each large enough to wrap an apple completely. Lightly crumple and then flatten each piece.
- Wash and dry the apples. Core each apple, leaving the bottom intact.
- In a small bowl, combine softened butter, brown sugar, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
- Place one cored apple on a piece of foil, stuff it with the butter-sugar mixture, add raisins or walnuts, and wrap it tightly.
Cooking
- Arrange the foil-wrapped apples in a slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 hours until tender.
- Let the apples rest for about 10 minutes, then serve warm with buttery sauce spooned over. Add ice cream or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
Make sure to tightly wrap the apples in foil to keep the steam in. Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar depending on your taste. Feel free to mix in different nuts, like pecans or almonds, for added flavor and crunch.
