Method
Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Slice each chicken breast horizontally and pound it between sheets of plastic wrap until about ¼-inch thick.
Adding Filling
- Season the chicken lightly with salt and pepper.
- Layer each piece with ham and Swiss cheese, leaving a small border around the edges.
Rolling
- Starting at one end, tightly roll each chicken piece around the filling. Secure with toothpicks if necessary.
Breading
- Place the flour, beaten eggs, and panko in separate shallow bowls. Season the panko with garlic powder and paprika.
- Coat each roll first in flour, then egg, and finally panko.
Baking
- Arrange the rolls seam-side down in a lightly greased baking dish or oven-safe skillet.
- Drizzle with olive oil or melted butter.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden and the chicken reaches 165°F internally.
Serving
- Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes, remove any toothpicks, then slice into thick rounds to reveal the ham-and-cheese swirl.
Notes
Pound the chicken evenly for even cooking. Different cheeses or added herbs may enhance flavor. The panko is essential for achieving a crispy texture.
