In a large dutch oven, brown the ground beef and pork over medium-high heat until fully cooked. Drain 90% of the rendered fat.
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté for 5 minutes until the onion is translucent.
Incorporate the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, and basil. Reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
In a separate mixing bowl, whisk together the ricotta cheese, egg, chopped parsley, and 0.5 cup of parmesan cheese until homogenous.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Begin assembly in a 9x13 inch baking dish by spreading 1.5 cups of the meat sauce across the bottom.
Place a single layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture evenly over the noodles, then sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella.
Repeat the layering process (noodles, ricotta, mozzarella) two more times.
Top the final layer of noodles with the remaining meat sauce, the remaining mozzarella, and the remaining 0.5 cup of parmesan.
Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil, ensuring the foil does not contact the cheese surface.
Bake for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 25 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F and the cheese is golden brown.
Remove from oven and allow the lasagna to rest for 15 minutes to set the layers before service.
