Ingredients

Main ingredients
  • 3 cups powdered sugar plus extra for dusting
  • 1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened Make sure your butter is softened to room temperature.
  • 1 pinch salt
  • Gel food coloring (red, green, or white, optional) Use a mix of colors for a festive look; layer them or create a swirl effect!

Method

Preparation
  1. Lightly dust a clean countertop or large cutting board with powdered sugar.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the softened butter and sweetened condensed milk until smooth and creamy.
  3. Stir in peppermint extract and a pinch of salt.
  4. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough feels sticky, add a little more powdered sugar.
  5. Divide dough into portions and knead in gel food coloring for festive red and green mints.
  6. Roll dough into small ropes and cut into bite-sized pieces, or shape into little balls. Optional: flatten slightly with a fork for a classic look.
  7. Place mints on a tray lined with parchment paper and let them dry at room temperature for 2 to 3 hours or overnight until firm on the outside but still soft inside.

Notes

To store your Christmas Peppermints, place them in an airtight container. Keep them in a cool, dry place. They can last for about two weeks, maintaining their delightful flavor and texture. You can add crushed candy canes or chocolate chips into the dough for a different texture and taste.
