Ingredients

Filling
  • 1 pound ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 ounce taco seasoning One packet of taco seasoning.
  • 1/3 cup water
Dough & Cheese
  • 1 13.8-ounce tube refrigerated pizza dough
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese Feel free to use a different cheese if desired.
  • 1 large egg Beaten, for brushing the pockets.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles. Drain the excess fat.
  3. Add the taco seasoning and water to the beef. Let it simmer until most of the liquid evaporates, then allow it to cool slightly.
  4. Unroll the pizza dough and cut it into 8 rectangles.
Assembly
  1. On one side of each rectangle, add a spoonful of the beef mixture and some shredded cheddar cheese, leaving a small border around the edges.
  2. Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges firmly with a fork.
  3. Brush the tops with a beaten egg and cut a small steam vent into each pocket.
Baking
  1. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, until the pockets are puffed and golden brown.
  2. Let them rest for 5 minutes before serving warm.

Notes

Make sure to seal the pockets well to prevent the filling from leaking out while baking. You can prepare the pockets ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to bake them. They can also be frozen and baked directly from the freezer, just add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
