Cheesy Baked Onion Beef Patties

Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound 80/20 ground beef
  • 1 large yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup low -sodium beef broth

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the sliced onions in olive oil until golden brown and softened, approximately 10 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce; mix by hand until just incorporated.
  4. Form the beef mixture into 4 equal patties, approximately 1 inch thick.
  5. Arrange the patties in a single layer in a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  6. Pour the beef broth into the bottom of the dish around the patties.
  7. Top each patty with a generous portion of the sautéed onions.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 155°F (68°C).
  9. Distribute the shredded cheese over the top of the onions on each patty.
  10. Bake for an additional 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese is fully melted and the internal temperature of the beef reaches 160°F (71°C).
