Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 3 pounds bone-in chicken pieces Use for best flavor and moisture.
  • 1 cup ketchup Add hot sauce for a little spice if desired.
  • 1 cup cola Can substitute with any dark soda or ginger ale.
  • 1 packet dry onion soup mix

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch glass baking dish.
  2. Pat the chicken pieces dry and arrange them in a single layer in the dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, stir together the ketchup, cola, and dry onion soup mix until well blended.
  4. Pour the mixture evenly over the chicken.
Cooking
  1. Cover the dish loosely with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil, spoon some of the sauce over the top, and continue baking for 30 to 40 minutes, or until the chicken is tender and deeply glazed.
  3. Let the bake rest for 10 minutes before serving so the glaze can settle slightly.
  4. Spoon the sauce over each piece when plating.

Notes

Serve hot from the oven with rice, mashed potatoes, or a simple green salad. Drizzle the delicious sauce over the chicken to enhance flavor. Allow leftovers to cool, store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
