Ingredients

Dumpling Ingredients
  • 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough, 8-count Cut into halves or quarters
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar For the cinnamon syrup
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Melted for the syrup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon For flavoring the syrup

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and lightly butter or otherwise grease a medium glass casserole dish.
  2. Cut or tear each biscuit into halves or quarters and scatter the pieces evenly in the prepared casserole dish.
Making the Syrup
  1. In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
  2. Stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon until the mixture is combined and glossy, resembling a loose syrup.
Baking
  1. Pour the cinnamon syrup evenly over the biscuit pieces, making sure most of the dough gets coated.
  2. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the dumplings are puffed and golden, and the syrup is thick and bubbling around them.
  3. Let the dish rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving to let the syrup thicken slightly.
  4. Spoon out the dumplings warm with plenty of sauce.

Notes

Serve the dumplings warm, optionally with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Drizzle additional cinnamon syrup on top for more flavor. To store leftovers, keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Reheat in the microwave or oven.
