A bag of frozen cheese ravioli can become a comforting slow cooker dinner with very little hands-on work. Marinara provides the sauce, cream cheese softens into it, and mozzarella melts across the top. The result is a creamy, saucy pasta bake that you can spoon straight from the cooker.

This four-ingredient version is meatless and uses cream cheese for its rich texture. If you prefer a hearty meat sauce and ricotta, see our slow cooker ravioli lasagna instead. Here, there is no skillet step: layer everything while the ravioli are still frozen, cover, and let the slow cooker do the work.

The four ingredients

Frozen cheese ravioli: One 25-ounce bag is the base of the dish. Keep it frozen until you assemble the layers so the pasta holds its shape during cooking.

Marinara sauce: A 24-ounce jar gives the ravioli enough moisture to cook and coats each layer. Choose a sauce whose flavor you already enjoy, since it does much of the seasoning here.

Cream cheese: An 8-ounce block adds the creamy element. Cut it into small pieces before layering; smaller pieces melt more evenly than one solid block.

Shredded mozzarella: Divide 2 cups between an inner layer and the top. The final cup goes on near the end so it melts without spending hours against the lid.

How to make it

1. Prepare the cooker. Lightly grease the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker. This small step makes the edges easier to serve and clean later.

2. Start the layers. Spread about one-third of the sauce across the bottom. Add half the frozen ravioli in a fairly even layer, overlapping where needed.

3. Add the creamy filling. Dot half the cream cheese over the ravioli. Spoon another third of the sauce over it, then scatter 1 cup of mozzarella across the surface.

4. Repeat and slow cook. Add the remaining ravioli, cream cheese, and sauce. Cover and cook on LOW for 3 to 4 hours. Start checking at about 3 hours: the ravioli should be tender and heated through, without falling apart.

5. Finish with cheese. Sprinkle the remaining cup of mozzarella on top. Cover for another 10 to 15 minutes, just until melted. Serve the layers mostly intact for a casserole feel, or stir gently for a more blended creamy sauce.

What to serve with creamy ravioli

A simple green salad or steamed green beans cuts through the richness. Garlic bread is useful for the extra sauce, while roasted broccoli makes the meal more substantial. A pinch of red pepper flakes can be offered at the table so everyone can season their own serving.

Variations & Tips

Add protein: Tuck fully cooked ground beef, Italian sausage, or shredded cooked chicken between the pasta layers. Avoid adding raw meat to this quick ravioli method.

For a smoother sauce: Cut the cream cheese into small cubes and distribute them widely. Give the finished dish a gentle stir if you want the cream cheese fully blended into the marinara.

More vegetables: Stir a couple of handfuls of fresh spinach into the hot ravioli during the last 20 to 30 minutes. It will wilt without needing a separate pan.

Watch the timing: Slow cookers vary. Check the pasta at the early end of the range; continued cooking after it becomes tender can make frozen ravioli too soft.

Extra cheese: Add a little grated Parmesan at the table, or another small handful of mozzarella at the end. Keep the core recipe to its four ingredients if that simplicity is the goal.

Common questions

Do I thaw the ravioli? No. Layer the pasta straight from the freezer. Thawed ravioli can become overly soft during several hours in the cooker.

Can I use fresh ravioli? Fresh pasta cooks much faster and may break down in this schedule. Check it early and shorten the cooking time substantially if you substitute it.

How should I store leftovers? Cool promptly, refrigerate in a covered container, and reheat gently until hot throughout. Add a spoonful of sauce or water if the pasta has absorbed much of the moisture.
